The Dot-Com Wreckage is an abstract typographic animation that is based on the rise and fall of the dot-com bubble. The dot-com bubble was an economic bubble and period of excessive speculation that occurred roughly from 1997 to 2001. During this period, many Internet-based companies, were founded, many of which failed. It had become a fad to invest in dot-com companies due to the speculation and optimism of what the internet could become. Due to the rise of personal computers and usage of the internet it was only fitting to create an animation that visually represents the time period of the dot-com bubble. The design of the animation is based on the Windows 95 operating system. The animation format was chosen in order to best represent the hectic madness of the dot-com bubble. The combination of fast paced audio, pixelated type and retro icons gives the animation a look that is true to the time.
